JOIN OUR WORK TO SUPPORT COMMUNITIES TO THRIVE

Do you want to work with the local community here in Southmead? Do you want to make sure the voices of the community are heard and listened to? Do you care about making homes warmer, saving energy, and improving the environment? We want to hear from you!

We are looking for someone to talk to people in our community and hear their ideas about energy projects and how to save energy in their homes. Your job will be to help us understand what people need, and to work with us to develop project ideas that could happen in Southmead in the future.

You will work with our team to design fun and creative ways to talk to people and get their ideas about energy-saving and other projects.

We have two jobs available.  Both jobs are two days a week for ten months.  It will really suit you if you know Southmead well (either because you live here, volunteer here, or have worked here) and would like to work in a community or environment role, and are looking to gain some experience.

You will also gain experience supporting all our community work at the Greenway Centre and The Ranch Adventure Playground & Youth Space, including helping with the Southmead Festival, our Yearly Update outreach exercise, and other community events.

ABOUT US:

We are a charity in Bristol, run by the local community. We help people of all ages and backgrounds. Our goal is to make our community stronger by improving health, wellbeing, and job opportunities.

We have two community centres, the Greenway Centre and The Ranch Adventure Playground & Youth Space.  We run services and activities to support the community including wellbeing services, events, youth and play sessions, community groups, fitness classes, and celebrations.

We are starting this new project because we know that looking after the environment, making local homes warm, and improving buildings, is important for people’s health and wellbeing. We want to make sure the changes in our city are fair for everyone, and we need your help to listen to people’s voices and ideas.

We want our team to reflect the different people in our community. We welcome everyone to apply. We are also a Disability Confident employer. If you need any changes when you come for an interview or start work, let us know.

ABOUT YOU:

  • You want to learn more about working with people in the community.
  • You are interested in and care about energy, the environment, homes and nature.
  • You are good at talking to people from different backgrounds.
  • You are confident and happy to talk to people you do not know including on their doorstep.
  • You can listen with care and empathy and understand that people have different views and experiences.
  • You have experience working or volunteering in a local community setting.
  • You are organised and manage your time well.
  • You can use email and are comfortable with basic IT skills.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

  • You will work with our Climate and Community Development teams to talk to people in the community and run events and activities. These may happen in the evenings or at weekends. You will be based at the Greenway Centre in Southmead.
  • You will help create fun and inclusive ways to engage with people from all walks of life. This could include setting up stalls in the street, door knocking, or having conversations one-to-one or with small groups of people at Greenway or The Ranch.
  • You will help gather ideas, concerns, and stories about residents’ experience of climate change, energy, streets, and homes in Southmead.  You will work with the team to develop ideas for new projects that we could take forward in the future.  You will then talk to the community about these project ideas to see if people like them or have any feedback.  This is part of the Transforming Energy Together project in partnership with the Centre for Sustainable Energy.
