Our Apprentice, the Boxing Gym, and the Minister

10/12/2024

We are ecstatically proud of our Apprentice Youth Worker, Mason.  He is one of Southmead’s finest young people and a great ambassador for our community.  We are delighted that Mason is part of our team at The Ranch Adventure Playground & Youth Space where he is a great role model.

Mason was invited to an event yesterday with our professional partners Empire Fighting Chance to meet Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Lisa Nandy.  As a prominent politician Lisa was of course well protected, but Mason was able to have a great conversation with her and was one of the few to grab a close moment for a personal pic.  Mason said:

She thought I had amazing ideas for young people development and how to prevent Anti-Social Behaviour and knife crime.
We spoke about all the things she is going to do to help youth facilities and all the new funding opportunities. She is focusing more on the development of young people and support with young people as well.
I also spoke about the opportunities we offer at Southmead Development Trust and that we are the main youth club for the surrounding areas, and we are also the only support network for young people locally.
Here at the Trust we are all simply bursting with pride that our wonderful apprentice and fine young person Mason managed to have such a meaningful experience, a really important chat, and to share with everyone the great work he, and The Ranch team, are doing in Southmead.  Well done Mason and thank you.  Huge thanks to Empire Fighting Chance for this great opportunity and we cannot wait to work in partnership with you on future projects.
