Roles and Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- To support the delivery of open-access youth sessions
- To provide a safe, vibrant, and inclusive space for young people
- Safeguard the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults, working within organisational safeguarding policies and local authority frameworks.
- Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the playground site.
- Report health, safety, and welfare concerns promptly.
- Have a flexible working approach, which will require evenings, weekends, and shift work
General Responsibilities – All staff at Southmead Development Trust are expected to:

- Take part in training, development, staff meetings, and occasional evening/weekend work when required.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties to support the organisation.

Essential
- 2 years or more of experience working with young people in similar settings.
- Knowledge and understanding of the legislation and safeguarding responsibilities of working with children and young people.
- Contributing to developing, designing, planning, and delivering a range of youth work activities
- Enabling and empowering young people to explore, try new things, and build their confidence, working in a strength-based way.
- Understanding of Youth Work principles
- Creative and ideas-driven, with genuine passion, empathy, and desire to improve the well-being of children, young people, and families.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with young people, including agreeing limits for acceptable behaviour.
- Understanding of all Health and Safety requirements, including Safeguarding, risk benefit assessments, data protection, and confidentiality.
