A Thursday Special for Loneliness Awareness Week at Greenway Centre

04/06/2026

At Southmead Development Trust, bringing people together and tackling loneliness are at the heart of everything we do. Our two community hubs, Greenway Centre and The Ranch, have been welcoming people and helping build connections for generations.

Our community projects and services, including Neighbours Connect Southmead, Greenway Learning and Wellbeing, The Ranch Link Forward, and our rolling programme of group activities, are all focused on making people feel welcome, connected and supported. We are committed to equity, diversity and inclusion, so that everyone in our community feels welcome, valued, and able to take part.

On Thursday 18th June we are proud to be joining Marmalade Trust’s Loneliness Awareness Week; their annual international campaign will be the focus of our Thursday Coffee Morning  – an open house for a good chat and a warm drink. This weekly get-together has led to many other groups and activities being set up including singing, art, sewing, a ukulele band, tech support drop-in, and board games – and to some firm friendships.

Our groups are known for their warm welcome and inclusive spirit, and they often inspire people to become regular volunteers. Our volunteers not only help to run the activity groups, but also to support people referred to our Neighbours Connect Southmead service by providing friendship, and help with daily tasks, day trips out, and our Lunch Club.

For our Loneliness Awareness Week focus, we are delighted to welcome two special guests to our Thursday groups.  Artist Sarah Cook will be giving out her beautiful ceramic hearts as acts of connection, and Kim Ingleby, author of 52 Ways to Feel Good, will be introducing us to her book. We are really looking forward to having a cuppa with them both and chatting about the creative ways they help people to feel connected.

Do join us on Thursday 18th June, from 10 am to 12 midday, for this extra special cuppa and chat, and to meet Sarah. Kim will be with us from 1.30 pm.
