Southmead Regeneration Festival Consultation

Southmead Festival on July 6th was a brilliant day full of live music and performances, great food and lots of fun activities. It was also an exciting day for Southmead Regeneration Project, as the latest plans for the new homes and community space on Glencoyne Square were revealed – not only on paper but in virtual reality!

It was jam packed day as people lined up to view the plans for a new health centre, library, park and 120 new homes on Glencoyne Square. The latest designs have been informed by many months of community consultation – exploring what local people think the buildings and open space should look and feel! Responses were overwhelmingly positive, many people were almost in disbelief seeing this ambitious project coming to life, and felt that it would make the centre of Southmead a much more inviting and lively place to spend time, and reaffirming the critical need for more homes in the area, particularly for people who have family and support networks in the area.

There was also a chance to feed into the Local Lettings Policy. A Local Lettings Policy means that the community can influence who should be given priority to move into the new homes once they’ve been built. To find out more and fill out a short questionnaire click here!

Bristol City Council also presented their plans for the regeneration of Arnside Road and invited the community to feedback on plans for changes in the roads and parking, which include making the road much more pedestrian friendly, adding a cycle path, planting and seating, and moving many of the parking spaces from Arnside to Ullswater Rd.

This is an important time to get involved with Southmead Regeneration and share what you think. Southmead Regeneration is a community-led project, which is led by the priorities set out by residents of Southmead in the Community Plan.
