Youth Scene Thriving at The Ranch in Southmead

31/03/2026

Something exciting is happening in Southmead. Over the past few years we have transformed The Ranch into a busy and welcoming space for young people, and the numbers speak for themselves. With more than 60 young people coming through the doors on many evenings, the youth sessions are buzzing with energy, creativity, and community spirit.

Every Wednesday and Friday, once the younger children have headed home, we shift gear at The Ranch.  The lights dim, the music rises, and young people from school years 7 – 11 take over. There is no pressure to attend regularly – some come every week, others drop-in when they need a place to unwind.

Inside the options are endless. Young people cook together, make beats in the music studio, play football, shoot pool, try boxing, or get involved in hair and beauty workshops. The activities matter, but the atmosphere matters more. Our amazing youth team offer something increasingly rare – a safe, relaxed space where young people can be themselves and talk openly with youth workers who genuinely care.

Mondays bring a different kind of support.  We work with those aged 16+ to navigate their next steps – whether that is college, apprenticeships, training, volunteering, or finding work. It is practical, patient guidance at a time when many young people need it most.

Alongside the open sessions, we also provide targeted support for those facing bigger challenges. From wellbeing help to crime-prevention work, the team at The Ranch is committed to being there for young people with any level of need.

In a time when youth spaces are disappearing, Southmead is building something powerful – a place where young people feel seen, supported, and part of a community that believes in them.
