Let’s Keep Talking at our Community Hubs

10/12/2025

We run two community hubs, Greenway Centre and The Ranch Adventure Playground & Youth Space, and we are proud to offer these safe spaces to discuss big and difficult issues, whatever they are; if they are important to our residents then we believe the best way is to encourage conversation.

Our latest Let’s Talk event, led by our valued partners Diverse Artists Network, took place at Greenway recently to talk about the current national social unrest, and to think about what we can do as a community.

I had been really looking forward to this event as I think it is so important to discuss what is going on, for people to know we are not alone in our concern, and to talk about want we want to do about it.

We began by talking honestly about how everyone has been feeling. Some people said they felt unsafe at times, and others shared worries about their children. It was a very open and supportive space, and this helped everyone feel heard.

We then watched a recital of a poem from 2008, which, sadly, still feels very relevant today. Do take a look HERE. It got us all thinking about how long these issues have been around and how important it is that we do not simply sit back.

We brainstormed ideas – things we can do ourselves and things we can do together. There were lots of great suggestions but the main message was clear: we need to come together as a community, and we need to start taking action now.

People left feeling more connected, more hopeful, and ready to get things moving. It is so important to keep talking, and if you would like to be part of this conversation, and have any ideas for creative ways to move forwards, please contact me, email: lucillesmith@southmead.org, or tel: 0117 950 3335.

Do keep an eye on our What’s On calendar for our next ‘Let’s Talk About’ event.
