Horizon Disability Friendship Group Needs Your Help

Greenway Centre is proud to host the Horizon Disability Friendship Group (HDFG) each Wednesday evening. Now in its third year, this weekly group brings together more than twenty disabled adults, aged between 18 and 80, for companionship, connection, refreshments, and fun. Volunteers support this inclusive group to run smoothly and safely to ensure everyone has a fantastic time.
Every week there are games and activities including quizzes, jewellery making, puzzles, colouring, and the ever-popular Bingo – with small and useful prizes for players. The group has also enjoyed Christmas parties, a summer barbecue, and now hopes to run its first Spring Karaoke night.
HDFG was founded by Lewis Philips and his family, with support from Southmead Development Trust and seed funding from Mencap. It was an idea that Lewis spent several years trying to get off the ground, and when his determination finally paid off he was delighted, he said, “Being able to get this group going has been a dream come true.”
The gathering is now so loved it has doubled in size, and while this is a resounding success it means that the group now needs to raise more funds. Everyone currently pays £1 to attend and to keep this contribution the same, donations are now needed to help with one-off special events like the Spring Karaoke, along with weekly Bingo prizes. Can you donate to make sure the Spring Karaoke happens or support with Bingo prizes? Any amount will be glady received, the group have a target to reach £500 by the end of April.
However small, your donation can make a real difference to this essential group which is open to anyone in the area with physical and/or learning disabilities. You can also donate actual prizes for Bingo and other games by dropping them into Reception at the Greenway Centre – the group would really appreciate essential items like cosmetics and toiletries, along with treats, small gifts, and food items (in date of course!).
