Back to the 1970s at Southmead Festival this Saturday!

22/07/2025

Are you ready for the Southmead Festival? This weekend we are going back to the 1970s to celebrate more than 50 years of this brilliant community extravaganza.

Join us on Saturday 26th July, from 11 am to 4 pm, at Greenway Centre, BS10 5PY.

What will you wear to win a fancy dress prize – flares, a kaftan, crazy glasses, flower power colours? What will you eat from the fabulous selection of festival food on offer, including hippy-style dishes from our onsite Cafe Des Amis, burgers and beer served by Southmead Rugby Club, and delicious Caribbean, Sudanese, and Indian delights.

There will be loads of free activities for kids including free donkey rides for the little ones, a petting zoo, free inflatables to bounce around on, free face painting, free Pom-pom making, a free nursery party with Raised in Bristol, and free activities and games. The popular fairground rides are back so do bring a bit of money for those, plus ice creams of course!

On the Community Performance Stage singers and dancers from Southmead and across Bristol will be bringing a mix of fabulous talent including Bill’s Keyboard Musical Medley, Esme Doll’s Drag Show, Bristol4Tibet dancers, DWild dancers, Predators Cheer, Dan Ratchet reggae, and, of course, the Greenway Singers – our fabulous headliners.

Now a Festival favourite, the monthly Greenway Market will be in full swing. Stalls will be bursting with a wonderful array of locally made crafts, gifts, and treats. Based in the Main Hall this vibrant hub is well worth saving a few pennies for, to spend on a brilliant bargain.

Southmead Repair Cafe volunteers will be ready to do their best to fix the homewares brought in. Garden tools are always really popular mends, with trimmers and shears being spruced up to work another season. If it is busy, we may need to stick to working on just one item for you – but you can always add any others to the queue, or come back next time.

There will also be a Greenway Gym fitness area with free group sessions, an older people’s area thanks to St Monica Trust, and our team from Youth sessions at The Ranch will be holding a TV Apprentice-style cake sale, where whichever team sells the most cakes wins!

Fancy dress winners, and winners of tickets for Southmead Peacefeast on Monday 28th July, will be announced as the Festival closes, just before 4 pm.

The full programme for the day is HERE, and there will be paper versions handed out as you arrive.

We cannot wait to see you on Saturday – do wear something colourful and get your 70s groove on!

Greenway Centre is fully accessible, but please give us a call to check out any details so we can make your visit as comfortable as possible. Follow us on Facebook for more updates.
