Join Us to Plant 200 New Trees: Thursday 5th February

20/01/2026

Do you fancy joining us to welcome more than 200 new trees to our Greenway Centre site in Southmead?  We invite you to join us for a mega tree planting day on Thursday 5th February. We will have our spades out, gloves on, and hot cups of tea going, from 10 am to 4pm. We would love you to come and get stuck in for as much or as little as you like, and for as long as you choose.

We are delighted to be working in partnership with Forest of Avon Trust to create this woodland area on the edge of our open space, along with some trees around the car park. It is something we have wanted to do for so long and teaming up with Forest of Avon Trust means we have support for the project, funding to buy and maintain the trees, and the expertise to make sure our new trees get the best start.

The aim is to create more of a wildlife corridor between our Greenway Community Garden and Badock’s Wood Nature Reserve. Wildlife corridors are areas which create connections between different areas so that wildlife can easily move between them. Examples in cities are hedgerows, streams, and railway verges. The idea is to increase the shelter and food sources which local wildlife has access to, supporting biodiversity in the area.

To maximise their chance of success, we have carefully chosen tree species which are local to our surrounding area and will support lots of wildlife. These include oak, hazel, beech, rowan, and wild cherry – lots of recognisable native and naturalised species for us all to enjoy for years to come!

Forest of Avon Trust look after the Forest of Avon Community Forest, one of 15 in the country. Since 1992 they have been supporting the planting and nurturing of trees across the West Country. A big thank you to them for this wonderful working partnership.
