Roles and responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise Young Gym sessions, building positive relationships with young members and creating a welcoming, supportive and safe environment.
- Encourage and guide young people to use gym equipment safely and effectively, supporting them in working towards their fitness goals.
- Plan, organise and deliver engaging Young Gym activities, including group exercise workshops and boxing-for-fitness sessions.
- Manage your own diary, including bookings for Young Gym activities, gym inductions, one-to-one appointments, and group exercise sessions.
- Deliver gym inductions, ensuring members can use equipment safely and confidently.
- Deliver one-to-one fitness sessions and group exercise classes for members of varying ages, abilities and experience levels.
- Maintain a visible and proactive presence on the gym floor, supporting members and promoting a positive gym culture.
- Promote a clean, tidy and respectful environment, including cleaning and sanitising equipment and encouraging members to take responsibility for shared spaces.
- Take an active role in continually improving the quality of Young Gym sessions and the overall experience for all gym users.
- Maintain a high level of awareness around safeguarding, remaining vigilant to concerns and responding appropriately in line with policies and procedures.
- Communicate confidently and professionally, building strong relationships with both younger and adult members.
- Help maintain high standards across the gym, ensuring a safe, inclusive and motivating space for everyone.

Essential
- Minimum Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification
- Experience in working with children and young adults in a working environment
- Experience of working in the leisure industry
- Experience of supervising gym floors
- Experience of doing gym inductions
- Experience in group exercise
- Ability to plan and manage appointments, bookings and workloads independently
- Passion for fitness and great people skills
- Ability to motivate and support people
- Proven ability in both written and verbal communication
- Awareness of Health & Safety and safeguarding in the workplace
- Excellent customer service skills

Desirable
- Youth or play worker qualification or similar
- First Aid Qualification
- Experience in boxing/boxing-for-fitness
- Experience in resolving complaints
- Knowledge of Southmead and the issues facing residents
- Experience using booking or membership management systems.
- Experience delivering community-based health and wellbeing programmes.
- Experience supporting young people to improve confidence, wellbeing and physical activity levels.
