Key responsibilities
Maintenance and Facilities Management
- Maintain high standards of maintenance, hygiene, safety, security, and presentation across all SDT sites.
- Coordinate the programme of maintenance, being prepared to assist and lead maintenance work directly.
- Provide supervision to repairs, refurbishments, and renovations.
- Manage aspects of the maintenance budget, working at all times to keep running costs down whilst enabling SDT to make smart long-term investments.
- Prepare indoor and outdoor spaces for events and community activities (e.g., Southmead Festival).
- Collaborate with the Customer Experience Manager to ensure high standards of service and space utilization.
- Support the provision of excellent staff workspaces and resources.
Utilities, Procurement and Assets
- Manage utilities (water, gas, electricity, sewage, waste and recycling) including procurement, contracts and efficient usage.
- Coordinate procurement and supplier contracts for facilities and maintenance.
- Oversee all site storage areas, ensuring they are organised, safe, compliant and used efficiently across all teams. Oversee stock controls.
- Ensure safe and compliant systems are in place across all facilities, including COSHH, Food Hygiene, fire safety and other regulatory requirements.
- Ensure sites are fully equipped, including maintenance of physical IT and telecoms infrastructure.
- Manage outdoor green spaces in line with charity objectives, business need and the Community Climate Action Plan.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation through preventative and reactive maintenance, training, and excellent record keeping.
- Lead on-site accessibility improvements and compliance with relevant standards
- Conduct and update risk assessments.
- Manage First Aid stock and record keeping.
- Serve as a named contact for fire, security, and major incident callouts.
- Act as Designated Premises Supervisor (when required) and lead on licensing.
People and Contractor Management
- Line manage the maintenance team effectively.
- Support volunteer involvement.
- Coordinate external contractors and suppliers.

Essential
- Proven experience in property maintenance.
- A skilled and versatile handyperson, by training and/or experience.
- Excellent organisational, prioritisation, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of the skills and materials needed for a range of property maintenance tasks and how to source these.
- Be commercially informed and good at controlling outgoings.
- Ability to line manage and assign responsibility to others.
- Understanding of the essential health and safety, accessibility, data protection and safeguarding requirements of a charity with busy public buildings working frequently with vulnerable adults and children.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation relating to site and facilities management, including general risk assessments, COSHH, fire safety, asbestos.
- Experience in managing maintenance contractors.
- Strong understanding of energy and resource efficiency, and other sustainability issues.
- Confident and empathetic communicator with strong relationship management.
- Team-working skills; flexible, collaborative and supportive.
- Good IT skills, ability to understand and utilise computer-based systems.
- Commitment to and understanding of the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.

Desirable
- A relevant trade or property maintenance qualification (plumbing, electrics, joinery, masonry, etc.).
- An IOSH or NEBOSH qualification or certificate.
- Experience of a maintenance role in a large public building.
- Understanding of the principles of community development.
