Southmead Peace Feast

03/08/2025

I love eating and chatting and music. As these are the main ingredients for a Peace Feast what more could I have wanted on Monday 28th July, in the Main Hall, at Greenway.

For this year’s Southmead Peace Feast, in partnership with Bridges for Communities, we had another delightful evening, well attended by Southmead residents and visitors.

This time we had beautiful Moroccan Gnawa music from Mohammed Errebbaa. Mohammed has performed at festivals WOMAD and Shambala, but he was also at Southmead Festival a few years ago and said he was glad to be back with us.

Our food was absolutely delicious – curry from Afghan Bristol Cuisine (ooh, that rice!), along with delicious breads and desserts.

Our partners Bridges for Communities support refugees and asylum seekers.  The music and food at Peace Feasts is always provided by people with lived experience, and this time one of the speakers shared his story about the walking group he runs.

Also speaking was Ruth Myers, who works with the Meadows to Meaders group in Southmead. Ruth spoke about how the stories that the group tell go back to when everyone was new in Southmead, because it was a brand new place, built in response to the housing crisis in the 1930s.

Then resident and Southmead Development Trust volunteer, Linda, summed it all up when she said, “Southmead is full of different cultures, stories, and traditions, and that’s what makes it so special”.

I am on a bit of a mission to hold events celebrating this specialness, so do keep an eye on our social media and website What’s On to find out about the next one.

We will definitely hold another Peace Feast in Southmead. But they do happen all over the City and are always interesting with delicious food. If you would like to venture out of Southmead for the next one click HERE for details.
