Southmead Development Trust is Going for Gold!

Southmead Development Trust is joining Going for Gold!  It’s a Bristol-wide bid to be recognised as a Gold Sustainable Food City.  Sustainable Food Cities is a national programme that celebrates and supports communities that are making positive changes to their food system.  As one of the first three cities to achieve Silver status, Bristol has already shown it has the motivation to make Good Food part of the City’s identity.

Southmead Development Trust is proud to join residents, and organisations such as Windmill Hill City Farm and Ambition Lawrence Weston, along with city policy makers, to make big and lasting improvements across six key Food Action Areas: Buying Better, Food Waste, Urban Growing, Community Action, Eating Better and Food Equality.

Our actions here at the Southmead Development Trust will contribute to long-term improvements to our City’s food system and bring about positive changes for Bristol’s communities, environment and workplaces.   Collectively, everyone’s actions will form the Going for Gold bid and help Bristol to achieve its aspiration of being named a Gold Sustainable Food City by autumn 2020.

Visit www.goingforgoldbristol.co.uk to find out how we can all play a part in this major leap towards making food that’s good for people, the planet, and the city, accessible to us all.  We can all register as individuals and join in and Southmead Development Trust would love our community to be a part of this positive change to a healthier planet.

We would like to hear your ideas about how you think we are already taking sustainable steps and can already celebrate, as well as how we can make changes in the different food action areas outlined on the Going for Gold website.  We have already collected our apples here at our Greenway Centre site and shared them locally; what else can we try?

On the Going for Gold website log any actions you take at home to improve your buying, growing, eating or sharing of food.  Every change you make is rewarded with a badge which you can share online or on social media – Southmead Development Trust already has a badge so we are on our way!
