Person Specification: Children and Young People’s Link Worker
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Key responsibilities
- Personalised Support
- Provide person-centred, creative one-to-one support for children and young people (CYP), exploring what matters to them.
- Link CYP and families to services and community support that best meet their needs.
- Work holistically with CYP and families, helping them overcome barriers to engagement in services or activities.
- Collaborate with CYP and families to empower them to take positive action for their own well-being.
- Enable smooth transitions into groups and activities where needed.
- Manage and prioritise a caseload of participants, ensuring ambitious performance targets and project objectives are met.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures and policies are followed accurately and promptly.
- Group Delivery
- Contribute to the development and delivery of targeted wellbeing groups.
- Administer group delivery effectively, ensuring timely communication and accurate data capture.
- Build relationships with VCSE organisations to identify external group opportunities or activities for service participants.
- Work with the CYP Services Manager to identify gaps in provision and design creative solutions.
- Data Capture
- Maintain accurate records of service delivery, including monitoring information and progress reports.
- Follow agreed processes for receiving, storing, and transferring participant information, to ensure confidentiality and timely administration.
- Professional Development
- Work with your line manager to undertake continual personal and professional development.
- Access regular Reflective Practice to support trauma-informed practice and manage challenging issues effectively.
General Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL
Qualifications
- Education to Level 3.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience supporting CYP on a one-to-one basis (e.g. mental health, SEND, SEMH needs).
- Recording and monitoring service data.
- Working from an asset-based approach.
- Working with the VCSE sector, including volunteers and small community groups.
- Partnership/collaborative working and building relationships across organisations.
Skills/Knowledge
- Passion, empathy, and commitment to supporting CYP to lead healthier, happier lives.
- Ability to listen and provide person-centred, non-judgmental support.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence in having difficult conversations.
- Ability to develop and maintain partnerships and find creative solutions.
- Strong IT skills (Word, Excel, email, and internet research).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent organisational skills, including prioritising under pressure.
- Understanding of health inequalities and community-based interventions.
- Knowledge of child development and community development principles.
Other
- Commitment to reducing health inequalities and reaching CYP from all communities.
- Emotional resilience and the ability to work well under pressure.
- Willingness to work outside normal office hours and across multiple sites.

Desirable
- Qualifications relating to children and young people.
- Training in Trauma-Informed Practice and/or Motivational Interviewing.
- Knowledge of Southmead and North Bristol, and issues facing local CYP.
- Proven track record of working successfully with schools, youth organisations, and community groups.
