SUMMARY:Mindfulness for Cancer: Free 8-week Course in the Community
DESCRIPTION:Are you living with and beyond a cancer diagnosis? \nYou may be living with and beyond a cancer diagnosis for many years or have just reached the end of hospital-based treatments. When all the appointments\, treatments\, and check-ups stop\, and support mechanisms are withdrawn\, it can feel like a lonely and isolating time. Particularly\, when others expect ‘life to go back to normal’ now that the ‘treatment is over’ and you are ‘cured’. Our experienced teachers of this specialised 8-week Mindfulness for Cancer course have heard these stereotypical phrases many times. Partners\, carers\, and family members impacted by a cancer diagnosis can also benefit from this course. \nConnecting with others\, who are not family and friends\, provides a safe and supportive space to explore the impact emotionally\, physically and cognitively (thoughts). Mindfulness allows us to do this in a non-invasive way: this is not counselling; this is a skills-based course. \nThis course is two-and-a-half-hour sessions\, once a week\, for 8 weeks. There will also be 30 minutes of home practice over these 56 days. However\, the rewards can be life-changing. \nNCIM are able to offer this course for free thanks to a Cost of Living Grant that we were awarded. The grant stipulates that we can work with communities living within a BS postcode\, which covers Bristol City\, North Somerset (including Weston-Super-Mare\, Axbridge\, Banwell\, Cheddar\, Clevedon\, Wedmore\, Winscombe)\, and South Gloucestershire. If you feel you do not meet these criteria\, please do register your interest nonetheless. Two weeks prior to the start of the course any remaining places may be allocated to those who do not meet the criteria. DESCRIPTION:Developing Health & Independence (DHI) is celebrating its 25th anniversary with an exhibition of words and images to show the impact our charity has had\, and continues to have\, on the lives of many people.  We invite you to visit our exhibition at the Greenway Centre to share with you the empowering stories and images of the people we have supported to turn their lives around. \nThe exhibition features powerful images captured by one of our earliest clients\, Darius Jean.  We are so proud to have worked with Darius and to now be able to showcase his talent with the stunning portraits he has taken of others we have supported\, along with their fascinating stories. \nOur display is part of a regional touring exhibition at key community locations where DHI operates.  We want to illustrate how we help people to make long term changes and transform their lives.  The stories they have shared are testament to how the right support can help people who are facing enormous challenges to get their lives back on track and find their purpose in society. \nWe hope that by visiting the exhibition\, residents can learn about the wide scale of social exclusion in the community\, how DHI can help\, and why our services have never been more needed. \nEveryone is welcome.  The exhibition will run from Monday 14th to Sunday 20th October.  Greenway Centre is fully accessible and opening hours are 8 AM to 9 PM\, Monday to Friday\, and 9 AM – 5 PM at the weekends.  Café Des Amis is open 8 AM – 4 PM Monday to Friday\, and drinks and snacks are available from Reception outside of these hours. \nFor more about DHI click HERE

DESCRIPTION:Once a month we run Parent and Carer support sessions where we invite professionals in to talk around a theme that parents and carers have identified as something helpful to have more info about. \nThis week’s theme is helping your teens to regulate their emotions which is always a hot topic.  Dawn Edwards\, from North Star\, will be leading us in discussion and supportive ideas to get us through.  Also\, our Fitness & Wellbeing Coach David will show us techniques to help us take care of ourselves as we navigate teenage territory.  It will not be a work-out and is definitely optional\, but just a way to remind us we must take care of ourselves too. \nSo far\, the feedback for our sessions has been overwhelmingly positive with people saying that just space to share and to not feel alone is hugely helpful. \nThere will be hot drinks and some light refreshments to keep us going and we would love to welcome you! \nThe sessions are free but please sign up so we know numbers HERE. \nIf you need help to register for the session please get in touch\, email: jenlister@southmead.org\, or call: 0117 950 3335

SUMMARY:An Inspector Calls on the Greenway Stage
DESCRIPTION:An Inspector Calls is the latest production from the Southmead Players\, a community theatre company.  We are relatively new\, and we would love the support of residents to come and see the show produced by the community for the community. \nWe are now looking forward to bringing An Inspector Calls to the Greenway Stage and cannot wait to see you there.  An Inspector Calls is a play by J. B. Priestley and the story revolves around the apparent suicide of a young woman called Eva Smith. In the play\, the unsuspecting Birling family are visited by the mysterious Inspector Goole.
